To the Yale Community,

I write to make you aware that the New Haven Police Department is investigating a burglary of an occupied apartment that occurred at around 3:00 am on Lake Place between Ashmun Street and Dixwell Avenue. An older style red pick-up truck was seen leaving the area. We have increased patrols in this area. No physical injuries were reported. If you have any information regarding this incident, please call the Yale Police at (203) 432-4400 or send an anonymous text tip through our Bulldog Mobile (LiveSafe) app. To register for Bulldog Mobile please visit https://your.yale.edu/community/public-safety/campus-safety-services/bulldog-mobile-livesafe-app. For more crime prevention and safety tips please visit http://publicsafety.yale.edu/safety-tips.

Many burglaries occur when a thief finds a window open or a door unlocked, and some very basic precautions can help deter a burglar. It is important to always lock your doors and windows, keep hedges near doors and windows trimmed, and make sure your entrance is well lit. Use a locking device that allows the window to open only a few inches for ventilation, and secure window air conditioners where possible. If you live in an apartment building, don’t hold the door open for anyone you don’t know. If you plan to go away on vacation, remember to stop mail and newspaper deliveries, make your home look occupied by keeping some lights on or by using timer devices for interior lights, and make sure that all windows and doors are locked before you leave.

Please call the Yale Police if you see anything suspicious that concerns you, or if you see a crime in progress. Call the Yale Police at 203-432-4400 or dial 911 in an emergency.
